I have had a couple great conversations with Hobey at Mixer Magazine in New York concerning the tribute CD The Church Of Gary Numan: A Dark Celebration. He was kind enough to drop a few lines in the Dec/Jan issue in the Mixed Information section of the magazine. He states: "Thirty-four-year-old college professor Jim Collins of Poland, Ohio is the world’s biggest Gary Numan fan, and to prove it he’s recorded a one-man tribute album called The Church Of Gary Numan: A Dark Celebration. The disc features Collins reworking 12 Numan cuts, including an even-dancier version of I Dream Of Wires and both a jazz fusion and pop version of Cars. Collins says Numan himself has already given his seal of approval to the project. For more info, visit www.churchofgarynuman.com." Special thanks goes out to Hobey Echlin, Staff Writer for MIXER Magazine. hobey@mixermag.com. Hobey is one of the friendliest and coolest writers I have spoken to concerning this project.
I am thrilled to report that
I received an email from Sister Ray in Soho, London just a couple days ago
indicating that the tribute album had sold out and they actually had back orders
on it! So, I immediately shipped another case of CDs off to London and they
should arrive there by Monday, November 13. For anyone interested in picking up
the CD at the record store the address is:
Sister Ray Records
94 Berwick Street
Soho, London, W1V 3PP
United Kingdom
Telephone: +44 (0) 207.287.8385
I was shocked to find that my
tribute album was listed as the 4th most popular releases under the Numan
section at Amazon.com. I’m not sure how that exactly happened… but I am not
going to argue about it! Go to Amazon.com.

Cannot wait to see your
updates and certainly cannot wait to get the Church
opened up to the Numanoid public! April 1 is the target and I'm working my
fingers to da bone! My friend Jason and I are getting together tommorow to
wrap up the production of the
video.

Working on all of the legal
end of things concerning the CD and
video documentary. Working with an agency based out of London now. I have
sent them the information they needed and hope to hear back soon. I am
working on a web site that will (hopefully) be launched on April Fool's Day
called Church of Gary Numan at www.churchofgarynuman.com.
People can also buy
the cd and video from that site as well as other sites

Churchman Jim Collins here. I
had a blast the other night in the chat room
that you hosted. It was a nice change of pace to get a handfull of Numan fans
together in a peaceful format and talk to one another. The CD has a lot of
good qualities, but I really like the fact that it brought a few of us
together for that hour. And, we shall do it again! I will be working on the
video documentary this Saturday with my former student and friend Jason
Gearin. He has filmed several hours of footage in the studio, at my home,
live songs, interviews, and is working on a video collage of live Numan
photos from the North American Exile Tour. We are going to plant several of
the songs from the CD in the video, and I may do a couple more NEW songs just
for the video. Currently flirting with a 12-string acoustic version of M.E.
from Pleasure Principle... so stand by my friend. Things could get pretty
interesting! Oh, just a side note... I am trying to find the time to create a
web site devoted to The Church Of Gary Numan. I'm registering the name
www.churchofgarynuman.com.
Keep your fingers crossed.

The CD is
just about done. Last week I recorded Love is Like Clocklaw and Metal. This
week, Josh and I will transfer all 12 tracks to rdat for replication. I still
trying to determine the order of the songs.
The rockumentary is coming along very nicely. Jason and I will start
production when I get my new computer next week.
E-mailed a few Numan sites in England and in Canada to see if they would add
some news on the CD somewhere on their site and a few sites agreed. Dark
Alien Light, Dead Heaven and AFE to name a few. They were very friendly and
happy to add the CD to their NEWS section and will be doing so in a couple
weeks.

. I'll be in the studio
Tuesday night to mix and
produce and possibly record a new song or two! Talk to you soon.
12/23/99
I thought I would give
you a quick update while I
had a minute or two during this busy holiday season. I just got back from the
studio and I am very happy to announce that my producer, Josh Roman (Mind
Rocket Studio) and I have mixed and produced 6 songs. They are: 1) Joe The
Waiter; 2) Cars (Jazz Mix); 3) You Are In My Vision; 4) A Question Of Faith;
5) Stories; and 6) Dominion Day. I am returning to the studio next week to
mix Down In The Park and Cars as well as record I Dream of Wires and I Still
Remember. I was flirting with Metal as a punk song, but now I am leaning more
towards acid rock!
12/18/99
Just finished I Dream Of
Wires and it has a very hyper-techno beat with
distorted guitar work and wild synth parts. And, I wanted to do something
very badly from The Fury, but couldn't decide which song to approach. I
started at 8AM this morning and finally have accomplished recording I Still
Remember! It is very smooth with lots of piano, bass guitar and strings. That
makes 10 total songs so far! I am flirting with a punk rock version of Metal
(punk rock as in Ramones punk rock!).
12/12/99
. I am now
working on a techno-disco version of I Dream Of Wires possibly with some very
dark and harsh guitar work! I receive several inquiries about the CD every
week via E-mail. This is truly exciting. Your site is looking very nice these
days! I saw your update in the Digest ... thanks. You have been a big help
and a healthy source of motivation for me.
12/4/99
I will be in the studio
Monday night and Wednesday mixing
and producing these songs. I am still working on 2-4 more Numan tunes. I'm
thinking about a electro-disco version of I Dream Of Wires, a bluesy version
of The 1930's Rust, Absolution, and another song. It is getting down to the
wire. I am going to air mail the CD to Gary himself for review and hopefully
his blessings.
12/01/99
Tonight was a long night in
the studio and a very
productive one. Stories is now finished! We also shot about an
hour of rockumentary footage in the studio. Finally, my student and film
director interviewed me on digital recording equipment which will appear on
the video as well as possibly on the CD!
11/28/99
I am going back into the
studio to finish A Question of Faith and lay tracks
down for Stories and Dominion Day. I will have completed 8 songs after this
week. I am very happy about this!
I will also start work on the video rockumentary this Wednesday in the
studio. Things are really heating up on this side!
I plan to head off another Numan project after this one for other Numan
tribute bands all over the planet. Some of these bands have E-mailed me and
asked if I would help them get this off the ground when I was finished with
my project. How could I refuse?
