NAGNFC Review of "The Church Of Gary Numan: A Dark Celebration"

First off, the packaging is very impressive. Everything about this project is top notch from the design to the production values.
I Dream Of Wires is awesome! I get the same lift from this as I get from Stormtrooper In Drag by St. Etienne on Random. A great way to start the album too.
I Still Remember is an interesting take on the original. Points for originality here, I bet no one else has thought to cover this.
Dominion Day is like the Exile version mixed with healthy amounts of The Monday Troop. Here I can finally understand the words without consulting the lyric sheet! Very compelling delivery.
Jo The Waiter is one of those songs one hears several times in a lifetime, so this different version is a welcome treat.
I defy anyone not to tap their feet to A Question Of Faith. Eerie monotone-like delivery combined with an infectious beat and well thought out keyboard sound that almost mirrors yet shies from the original.
Both Stories and You Are In My Vision are just good old fashioned fun to sing along to, I know I sure did.
I'm very impressed with Cars (Jazz Mix). The piano work here is nothing short of excellent. Where did you learn to play like that? It's also a bold fearless move to make Cars a 'Jazz Mix', but it's done well here.
The Acoustic Video Mix of Cars sounds polished with a clear idea of putting across one fan's passion for his hero.
All in all, like Numan, this CD takes a lot of chances, but like Numan, these songs shine with memorable and timeless offerings.
