Jared Cook

Ben Mobley has nominated Jared Cook for Numanoid Of The Year 2000:
Jared Cook has made it his personal hobby
to collect and catalog all the covers that have been done of Gary's
music. He keeps a list of what he's been able to find-- through tribute
albums both commercial and cottage-industry, individual songs on singles
or albums, and off of Napster or other file-sharing.
Most importantly, he's been willing to share what he's found with anyone
who's interested. He maintains a list of all the covers he's aware of
and readily shares that information with anyone interested. He's burned
off half a dozen CDRs for me and he's never charged me a cent. He
doesn't seek to profit from his hobby; he just wants to share the
enjoyment of cover renditions of Gary's songs. He even put together a
bootlegged set of the 'Ghost of a White Face Clown' album appended with
ten other covers he added to the disc and sent them to several dozen
people at $5 a pop-- which he told me was a bit of a loss for him, after
the cost of the discs and shipping.
I don't know of anyone else in the numanoid community who has taken on
the task of keeping track of all the covers that have been done of
Gary's music, and I think that's a valuable service to the body of his
fandom. Given that he does this purely out of devotion to Gary and
camaraderie with other fans with whom he selflessly shares from his
collection, I think Jared shows a great spirit of fan dedication and
community supportiveness.
AND he's a North American!
